My counselling style is mixed, meaning that I individualize the process to what is right for you and pull from various evidence-based modalities. Psychotherapy Services
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
DBT focuses on viewing situations and feelings as a dialectic - two things that are opposing but true at the same time. This therapy modality focuses on emotional dysregulation, and utilizing skills to help increase effectiveness in everyday life. DBT focuses on teaching skills in emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness and interpersonal effectiveness.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
(CBT)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
CBT focuses on how our thoughts, feelings and behaviours influence each other and can cause distress. By creating awareness of how these processes interact with one another and challenging thoughts and building effective behaviours, CBT focuses on using tools to decrease distress.
CPT looks at how an individual views and thinks about a traumatic event, and how those thoughts or "stuck points" may be maintaining the trauma. CPT focuses on improving awareness of these thoughts, working through blame and processing through the trauma by focusing on the thoughts.
